The Santa Clara Players (SCP) community theater group is now accepting applications from persons wishing to direct for our group in the 2026-2027 season. We are excited about our new season choices and about the possibility of working with you. There is a travel stipend for directing. SCP presents three shows during the year: a Fall show in Oct./Nov., a Winter show in Feb./Mar., and a Spring show in May./June. The shows run on three Fridays and one Thursday at 8PM plus two Saturday and two Sunday matinees, for a total of 8 performances. Deadline to apply is July 27, 2026. The SCP 2026-2027 season selections are:
I Am A Camera by John van DrutenThe play that gave us Cabaret looks at life in a tawdry Berlin rooming house of 1930 with a stringently photographic eye. For the most part, it concerns itself with the mercurial and irresponsible moods of a girl called Sally Bowles. When we first meet her, she is a creature of extravagant attitudes, given to parading her vices, enormously confident that she is going to take life in her stride. She is fond of describing herself as an 'extraordinary interesting person,' and she is vaguely disturbing. As we get to know her we are more and more moved, more and more caught up in the complete and almost unbearable reality of this girl. Oct. 30 - Nov. 14, 2026
Blithe Spirit by Noel Coward A smash comedy hit in London and New York, this much-revived classic from the playwright of Private Lives concerns fussy, cantankerous novelist Charles Condomine, who has remarried but finds himself haunted (literally) by the ghost of his late first wife, Elvira. Clever, insistent and well aware of Charles’ shortcomings, Elvira is called up by a visiting “happy medium,” the eccentric and flighty Madame Arcati. As everyone’s personalities clash, Charles’ current wife, Ruth, is accidentally killed. She “passes over” and joins Elvira, allowing the two “blithe spirits” to haunt the hapless Charles into perpetuity. Feb. 26 - March 13, 2027
Spreading Joy by Cricket Daniel Three couples gather for their annual beach trip to scatter the ashes of Joy, the friend who held them together for 40 years. But Jack, her widower, shocks everyone by inviting Evelyn — a widow who understands his grief — to join them. What should be a healing reunion fractures as the group grapples with an impossible question: How long should you mourn before you're allowed to live again? SPREADING JOY explores love, loss, and the courage to open your heart when those closest to you think it's too soon. May 21 - June 5, 2027
