History
We started in 1962 as part of the Santa Clara Parks and Recreation Department and were called “The Santa Clara Community Theater”. Performing as a traveling show group, we presented our first theater production, “My Thee Angels,” at several local schools.
In 1968, we became known as “The Santa Clara Players,” a city-sponsored cultural group, and eventually became a non-profit organization governed by a Board of Directors. At around this time, we also began staging our theater productions at the Hall Pavilion (currently a 72-seat theater) behind the Triton Museum.

Directions to the theater
The Santa Clara Players' theater is located at the rear of the Triton Museum grounds.
You can find the Triton at 1505 Warburton in Santa Clara.
But it might be easier to google 1750 Don since that is where we are easiest to find. Either of those addresses will get you to us.
(Please note: don’t go to Don Ave. in San Jose. We are in Santa Clara, two blocks off El Camino Real. )

Traveling Troupe
As a community-based theater group, we have an outreach program, The Traveling Troupe, with the mission of bringing quality entertainment to the community through short plays, monologues, readings, and music. We produce 30-minute to one-hour flexible and affordable shows appropriate to community organizations, churches, social and senior organizations, as well as private parties.
How the Troupe Began
We started the first SCP outreach group 40 years ago, initially calling it the One Act Players. Our mission was to bring live theater in the form of short one-act plays to the community, the local church, and social and civic groups in Santa Clara County. The group consisted of current and former actors and actresses, primarily from SCP, and was continuously active from 1985 until it shut down in 2020 due to COVID. Still, many of the original group members remained active throughout, performing in other stage shows.
Troupe Reactivation
Last year, several SCP Board Members wanted to explore reactivating the Traveling Troupe, so we assembled a group of interested actors and began planning. We also decided to rename the group The Traveling Troupe of Santa Clara Players to reflect a more diverse programming offering short skits, music, songs, readings, and monologues.
Earlier this year, we premiered our initial offerings to an invited audience at SCP and formally relaunched the group with a few performances. We look forward to continuing this first step of bringing entertainment to various local groups.
Annual Events
We produce three to four shows per season at the Hall Pavilion, and one one-act play as part of our community outreach program, which is popular with schools, libraries, various church groups, and senior citizen clubs. We are also a proud member of the Santa Clara Arts and Historical Consortium.
